Pharmacy Tech JobsWhat are Pharmacy Tech Jobs Like?Your daily task may involve receiving or collecting prescriptions and processing them. You may need to count tablets, formulate solutions using crystallized or powdered ingredients, and packaging and labeling those medicines. In some cases you may need to explain to the patient how to take the medicine properly and how to store it so that it remains in peak condition. You might be responsible for stock control and ordering, or you may have to enter dispensing information onto patient records. Some roles may require you to prepare dispensary reports for billing purposes. These may then go to insurance companies, individuals, or hospitals for billing. What are Pharmacy Tech Job Prospects Like? The vast majority of pharmacy tech jobs are within retail pharmacies, as much as two thirds. These pharmacies may be independent, part of a chain, or part of a much larger retail organization such as a department store. A further twenty two percent were employed by hospitals in 2002. The remainder worked for Internet pharmacies, clinics, mail order, Federal Government, and wholesale. In general, the number of positions is expected to rise due to the aging population and the heavier usage of prescription drugs by elderly people for age related illness.
